Painting
18/02 - 3/04/2022
Marlena Promna is a painter who graduated from Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa (formerly Jan Długosz Academy in Częstochowa) under the tutelage of prof. Leon Maciej in 2004. In 2007 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław under the tutelage of prof. Andrzej Klimczak-Dobrzeniecki. She holds a postdoctoral degree in the field of plastic arts in the discipline of fine arts, and is an associate professor at the Faculty of Painting at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław in prof. Piotr Kielan’s drawing studio. She is the author of over twenty solo exhibitions, paintings in architecture, and a member of multiple group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. She coordinates and curates international research projects, workshops, and exhibitions.
Synthesis and matter are permanent features of my paintings. They connect diverse, often extreme areas of my painting explorations. Meandering between different ways of imaging is very important to me. It is motivated by my desire to create the best record of the topic that interests me. My work oscillates in a space “between” geometry and bioform, abstraction and figuration, metaphor and literalism. Between 2016 and 2020 I completed a series of five artistic research projects concerning the semantic and structural analysis of a garden. I will present the results of my experiments in the exhibition at the City Art Gallery in Częstochowa.
